Programmer

Job
Description
Purpose
Draws and programs parts and assemblies for prototype
and production. Unfolds customer computer print
files or draws from print in order to program parts
and assign tools for CNC punches.
Essential
Duties and Responsibilities
Knowledge of CAD software specific to the company
such as Autocad, CadKey, JetCAM. Merrymech, Solid
Works, etc.
Knowledge of specific punch/laser manufacturers
programming software
Provide design assistance for products and produce
engineering drawings
Provide print generation capability from customer
CAD files
Program parts with proper tool and punching sequence
selection for CNC punches
Program parts for laser machine production
Nest parts as required on sheets or blanks to
maximize material and production efficiency
Program and document revisions as required
Assist with design of tooling and fixtures
Thorough understanding of punch tooling and capabilities
to optimize punch program efficiency
Provide input on punching efficiency improvements
and cost versus benefit analysis of new tooling
considerations
Maintain tooling inventory list
Maintain punch program files on computer and files
of set up sheets
Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner
Supervisory
Responsibilities
Generally none. May hold position of Senior or
Lead Programmer.
Education
and/or Experience
High School diploma, GED, technical school training
or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Previous experience as a CAD Programmer desired
preferably in the precision sheet metal industry.
Must have strong, demonstrated sustained working
abilities in a fast paced production area.
Mechanical aptitude required.
Flat pattern skills required.
Previous CNC punch operation highly desirable
Previous pressbrake and punch experience highly
desirable
Must have proven abilities in communication, organization,
setting priorities, work well independently and
in a team environment, and be results-orientated.
Able to adapt quickly to change and work under
tight deadlines.
Must be cooperative, willing to share knowledge,
cross-train, take on additional responsibilities,
lead teams, and hold self and others accountable.
Language
Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical
information i.e. blueprints, flat pattern, drawings,
etc.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints
from internal/external customers.
Ability to clearly communicate information to
all levels of the organization
Mathematical
Skills
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages,
ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Requires math skills; addition, subtraction, multiplication,
division, and trigonometry to perform programming
and flat pattern calculations.
Demonstrated ability to use precision measurement
equipment.
